There are so many landscapes in front of homes that are missing a middle layer. There is usually huge trees more than 20 feet and then there are ground level shrubs and perennials. It helps transition the eye through the landscape to have a layer of a woody, small tree or large shrub in the 8 to 10 foot high range. I love both Vernal and Common witch hazel.
