A fifth person has died amid Central Harlem's legionnaires' disease outbreak, New York City health officials said, as they continue to investigate the cluster.

NEW YORK -- A fifth person has died in connection with a Legionnaires’ disease outbreak in New York City, health officials said. The outbreak in Central Harlem has sickened dozens since it began in late July and the latest death was announced late Monday night. Fourteen people were hospitalized as of Monday, according to the health department.

Dozens of people sickened in Central Harlem Legionnaires’ outbreak are planning lawsuits. A handful of law firms have been retained to represent some of the people who became ill or died in the worst cluster since 2015.
