The Dallas Mavericks hold the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft after winning the Lottery for the first time in franchise history. This is the second time they'll hold the first pick, as they took Mark Aguirre with the top pick in the 1981 Draft, but that was before the Lottery was established.

Duke prospect Cooper Flagg is the consensus No. 1 overall selection, with the 6'9" forward promising to be a generational prospect who doesn't turn 19 years old until December. The Mavericks are in pole position to draft him and quite literally transform the franchise.

“We’re looking forward to seeing everyone in the building,” said Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Welts, who on Jan. 1 succeeded the retired Cynt Marshall as CEO. During his 47-year career, Welts also has overseen business operations of the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors.
