Former Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott thanked the organization and its fans in a statement after being fired on Monday.
The Bills suffered an excruciating 33-30 loss to the Denver Broncos in the AFC divisional round. Two days later, they fired coach Sean McDermott. Buffalo enters offseason with seven2026 draft picks and about $32 million in dead cap money this season.
In his farewell note, Sean McDermott reflected on his time in Buffalo, calling it a gift to wake up every day as the Buffalo Bills’ head coach for nearly a decade. That chapter, however, officially closed this week when the Bills fired McDermott.

Players who ended the season on Buffalo’s practice squad who were not signed to reserve/future deals include cornerback/return specialist Brandon Codrington, kicker Matthew Wright, quarterback Shane Buechele, defensive ends Matthew Judon and Shaq Lawson, and wide receiver Kristian Wilkerson.
For since that 2018 draft haul, which also included linebacker Tremaine Edmunds and nickel cornerback Taron Johnson, Beane's springtime success has been average at best. Quite frankly, some of his subsequent early-round gaffes are arguably grounds for dismissal.
In a recent article, ESPN’s Benjamin Solak predicts that the Bills will make a major splash over the offseason by trading for star wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a return that includes a first-round pick.

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten believes the firing of Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott came down to one crucial decision on Saturday evening.
Instead, the general manager doubled down on Keon Coleman and attempted to pass free-agent addition Joshua Palmer off as a legitimate threat. The two combined for 60 receptions, 707 yards and four touchdowns. By comparison, New England Patriots' secondary receivers Kayshon Boutte and Demario Douglas accounted for 998 yards and nine TD receptions.
