Former Howard government minister Peter McGauran believes Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is “on his way out”.

In 2017, Mr. Trudeau came under pressure to stand up to Donald J. Trump, the newly elected U.S. president. As Mr. Trump restricted immigration, Mr. Trudeau restated Canada’s openness to asylum seekers, proclaiming, “ Diversity is our strength .”

OTTAWA, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Canadian Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is under increasing pressure to quit after Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland resigned over a policy clash on Monday, setting up one of the worst crises of his nine years in power.

Several local media outlets are now reporting that on a recent call involving a third of his liberal party's members of parliament, they all agreed it was time for Trudeau to go.

However, the sudden resignation of his closest political ally and its disastrous fallout has not had a major impact on how Canadians intended to vote during the next election.
