Multiple emergency alerts are in place across Queensland as large bursts of rain and severe thunderstorms continue across the state's south-east and northern New South Wales.

Showers are expected to ease across sodden south-east Queensland, but several flood warnings remain in place following ex-Cyclone Alfred, with extensive flooding recorded in Queensland's Lockyer Valley.

Tropical Cyclone Alfred has spent the night creeping towards Queensland’s coast and northern NSW. Despite authorities downgrading the cyclone to a tropical low early Saturday morning, locals have been warned not to be complacent with serious flooding risk remaining despite wind speeds slowing down.

Wild weather is expected to hit south-east Queensland from Wednesday night as Tropical Cyclone Alfred nears, as those in north-eastern NSW brace for "three natural disasters in one".

The BOM defended its integrity and asserted the accuracy of its predictions and mapping of TC Alfred. “Tropical cyclones can follow erratic paths and predicting their movement is complicated. Scientific understanding of these complex weather systems is continually developing,” said a BOM spokesman.
