Local interstates and elevated bridges will close early Tuesday morning as freezing temperatures and snow impact the New Orleans area. Interstate 10 will be closed at 4 a.m. in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Charles parishes, according to DOTD.

The Interstate 10 closure spans nearly the entire state, ending west of the Mississippi state line east of New Orleans.

Florida late on Wednesday closed a more than 200-mile stretch of Interstate 10 from the Alabama state line to Exit 192, the U.S. 90 junction, in Gadsden County “due to remaining snow, ice, and water on the roadway combined with incoming hard freeze temperatures overnight resulting in icy and dangerous conditions on bridges and roadways.

The Crescent City Connection bridge partially reopened Wednesday afternoon after historic snowfall blanketed New Orleans, though city officials still advise residents to avoid using it.

The latest closure means that nearly three-quarters of Louisiana’s portion of the coast-to-coast highway is shut. A rare winter storm brought record snowfall to the state on Tuesday.

One person is dead, and another has been arrested after a crash on Interstate 10 in New Orleans on Sunday, Jan. 19.

Jerome Lamar Gross, 45, “was arrested for driving under the influence,” the NOPD said in a statement. The identity of the male motorist who was killed has not been disclosed.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation on Wednesday shut down 230 miles of Interstate 10 from the Texas state line to New Orleans.

The city of New Orleans has expanded it’s snow plowing operations. Indiana-based Sherco first arrived as the snow was letting up Tuesday evening. The plows immediately got to work on the Crescent City Connection and expressways around the CBD.

ATLANTA — A rare winter storm charging through Texas and the northern Gulf Coast on Tuesday has closed highways and airports and prompted the first blizzard warning for southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana.

Snow started falling on Monday across the Lone Star State because it wasn’t until Tuesday that records across the Gulf Coast were smashed. New Orleans officially recorded 8" of snow with plenty of reports of 8-12" around the Big Easy.
