Seven San Antonio Police Department officers were shot while responding to a call Wednesday night and the suspect was found dead after an hourslong standoff, officials said.

Despite efforts to resolve the situation, the suspect was found deceased. It remains unclear whether he died from a self-inflicted wound or from police action. The suspect was arrested Jan.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus held an impromptu press conference near the incident around 10:30 p.m. and explained to local media about what transpired. It was initially reported that only four police officers were shot during the incident.
