Montgomery Elevator (founded in 1892) built elevators in Moline until 1980, when it moved production to McKinney, Tex.

The retired chairman of the board and CEO of the former Montgomery Elevator Co. died unexpectedly Thursday from complications after a fall. He was 83.

He began his career with the Atomic Energy Commission in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and later joined Montgomery Elevator Company in 1953. He became president of Montgomery in 1968 and retired in 1994.
