President Trump will appoint himself chairman of the prestigious John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, he said Friday. Trump plans to remove several members of the board of trustees, he said in a Truth Social post.

The president had an at-times contentious relationship with Washington's iconic theater during his first term.

Trump did not attend prominent events during his administration. The move comes as his directives have begun to force changes at Washington’s cultural institutions.

The president intends to replace members of the institution’s board as he adopts a more aggressive approach toward the arts.
