New York City’s 81st annual Columbus Day Parade on Monday was cancelled due to the governor’s state of emergency order and inclement weather spurring floods across the tri-state area.

Severe storms could make their way to the tri-state area Thursday which could bring with them a risk of flooding. Severe weather can impact travel conditions. That can mean flight changes at major tri-state area airports.

A state of emergency has been declared in New York City, Long Island and Westchester County in New York as a powerful nor’easter tears up the East Coast.

Thousands of people across NY, NJ and CT were without power after a nor'easter slammed the NYC area with heavy rain and strong winds.

New Jersey has also declared a state of emergency, as the storm is causing high surf and coastal flooding along the Jersey Shore.

A State of Emergency is declared for eight counties across southern New York until Monday at 6 p.m. Governor Hochul's office said that includes the Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Queens, Richmond, Suffolk and Westchester Counties as well as counties contiguous to those eight.

"The detached panel was taken by the wind and blown approximately 20 feet away where it fatally struck a pedestrian at an adjacent walkway," the New York City Department of Buildings confirms.
