"I've always gone by the instinct of, do I have more to do? And I feel like I do," Yang said of the upcoming season 51. "Even [ SNL boss] Lorne [Michaels] and I talked about it, and Lorne was like, 'You have more to do.'"
Bowen Yang is speaking out about the wave of departures from "SNL," including longtime cast member Heidi Gardner.
“SNL” creator and producer Lorne Michaels told Puck in August that the coming season of the show would include some shake-ups, as he felt “pressure to reinvent this season.”
Longtime castmember Heidi Gardner is leaving, alongside Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker, while the 'Please Don't Destroy' videos will also come to an end.
Other stars set to return include Mikey Day, Sarah Sherman, Marcello Hernández, Andrew Dismukes and James Austin Johnson, as well as Season 50 newcomers Ashley Padilla and Jane Wickline. Variety was the first to report the news.
The SNL stars not returning for Season 51 include Heidi Gardner (after eight seasons), Michal Longfellow (after three seasons), Devon Walker (after three seasons), Emil Wakim (after one season), and John Higgins, who was part of the Please Don’t Destroy troupe that joined the late-night show in 2021.
Saturday Night Live’s Chloe Fineman “hasn’t fully processed” the exits of several of her cast members, but she’s “heartbroken.” Fineman called SNL boss Lorne Michaels’ latest cleaning house “shocking stuff” during an interview with Extra at New York Fashion Week Thursday.
