SAN DIEGO (AP) — Davis Thompson capped a roller coaster of a back nine at Torrey Pines with a birdie to take the lead Friday in the Genesis Invitational. Scottie Scheffler had an unusually wild day off the tee and was right on his heels.

"I don’t think I’ve ever seen a golfer play as many bogey-free rounds as Scottie," McIlroy said. "He just doesn’t make mistakes."
