A nor'easter that's bearing down on the NYC area continues to cause flooding concerns today for Long Island and New Jersey.

The past three winters have been fairly mild, with lower than average snowfall amounts, records show. The average snowfall total for Long Island is 32.10 inches, according to Brookhaven National Laboratory. "Though," Wunsch said, "that could change."
According to Jay Engle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton, New York, the city should expect “widespread” minor to moderate coastal flooding of 1.5-2.5 feet; “major flooding” is forecast for Long Island, as of Saturday morning.
A nor'easter forming off the East Coast will make its way to Rhode Island, dousing the long weekend in rough weather. The National Weather Service issued both a storm watch and a coastal flood watch for the Ocean State's coastline over the Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day weekend.
