Many school administrators see metal detectors as a quick fix for gun violence. But do they actually make schools safer, or are they just a Band-Aid solution?

While that will hopefully be addressed in a patch, you can still learn how to get and use the metal detector, and work on finding the caches that are hidden throughout the regions.

If deployed correctly, metal detectors can go a long way in making your campus environment safer.

Apalachee High School will observe a Digital Learning Day on Monday to allow the installation of metal detectors.

The newly approved policies — “Policy 226 Searches” and “Policy 709.1 Use of Metal Detectors” — are publicly available on the school board’s documents site.

The detectors are to ensure safety for those who attend, work and visit the schools. “The metal detectors are a great opportunity,” Beaufort County Schools Superintendent Matthew Cheeseman said.
