AJ Ross has the story. KEARNY, N.J. (WABC) -- Eyewitness News has learned some new information about the driver who passed away in the fiery tanker crash along the NJ Turnpike Wednesday.

A man driving along on the turnpike witnessed the fiery crash: Police say the tanker truck collided with a Honda CRV at about 3:15 p.m.

At 10:15 a.m., troopers responded to the Turnpike after the driver of a box truck was shot in the abdomen while driving southbound, Charles Marchan, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said.

The incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. along the outer roadway of the southbound Turnpike near milepost 86 in Edison Township, Middlesex County, according to New Jersey State Police.
