Rohit Sharma opened up on his T20I retirement in great detail, insisting that the decision wasn't driven by his growing age.

Rohit Sharma shocked the cricket world with his decision to retire from T20 internationals after winning the T20 World Cup 2024.

Rohit revealed that he retired from T20Is following the T20 WC title win in June because he just felt it was the right time to do so, as he had a trophy in his hands and younger players were also coming up for India.

During the presentation ceremony, Virat Kohli, who had won the Player of the Final, announced his retirement from T20Is. And then shockingly, Rohit Sharma joined Kohli in retiring from the format as well, during the post-match press conference.

Rohit, who is the all-time leading run scorer in T20Is and also holds the record for playing most matches, hitting most sixes and centuries, retired from the shortest format of the game on June 29, 2024.

In a recent podcast, Sharma opened up about why he decided to hang up his T20I boots. He said, "The only reason I retired from T20Is is because I have had my time, I enjoyed playing the format, I played for 17 years.

Team India captain Rohit Sharma strongly denied any notion of retiring from international cricket anytime soon despite approaching his 40s. The right-handed batter declared that he still feels good enough to play all three formats and only retired from T20Is to give chance to younger players.
