BALTIMORE — The Howard County government revoked a building permit Monday that had been issued for a planned federal immigration detention facility in Elkridge, County Executive Calvin Ball announced during a news conference.

The Leavenworth Planning Commission voted 5-1 Monday to recommend the Leavenworth City Commission approve CoreCivic's operation of an ICE detention facility inside a former federal prison.

Two Maryland counties have faced protests over proposed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facilities, but the ownership of the buildings limits what actions they can take.
