Tejano and conjunto music legend Flaco Jiménez has died at age 86. The six-time Grammy winner was recognized as a pioneer in the Tejano music genre and was exalted for his virtuoso accordion skills.

Over the course of his seven-decade career, Jiménez received numerous awards and honors, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammys.

Jimenez’s death was announced Thursday evening by his family on social media. He was surrounded by family members when he died in the San Antonio home of his son Arturo Jimenez.
